California Continues to Shut Down Unlicensed Cannabis Retailers

After cracking down on illicit marijuana retailers last December, California law enforcement continues to take action on the cannabis black market. As California cannabis business consultants we wanted to help you better understand what this means to licensing in the future.

On Tuesday, January 28, the Los Angeles Police Department served two search warrants on illegal cannabis businesses “Garden of Faith” and “High Society Wellness Center” resulting in the seizure of over $560,000 in cash and illegal cannabis products from the unlicensed operators.

The black market has posed a big threat for the regulated cannabis industry since 2018 when California’s legal marijuana market began its sales.

Not only are unlicensed weed shops huge competition against the regulated market, they also pose big safety concerns for consumers.

The illegal cannabis products that were seized in Los Angeles in December  tested positive for potentially harmful additives serving as a warning for consumers to use caution when purchasing marijuana products.
